A little about myself.
My name is Libby Riaño. I am a graduate of Career Foundry online User experience and User interface design. My goal is to enter the career field as a jr. UX/UI professional with a company that values teamwork and the sharing of ideas, and continue to develop my skills to become a senior level researcher and designer.
I appreciate leadership that is accessible and honest, and I am looking for a place I can grow as a designer. A place where work doesn’t feel like work, but is filled with variety and new ideas.
As a former photo specialist and photographer, I have developed an eye for color and layout, and I enjoy editing photos and giving creative suggestions to customers. I am proficient in Photoshop and Sketch.
As a Career Foundry student, I have completed all of the major principles of the design process; from competitive analysis and surveys through wire framing, user flows, personas, user testing, analysis, basic html, prototyping, Gestalt principles, grids, icons, and logo creation (see all certificate achievements on LinkedIn). The UX course and UI specialization gave me a very well-rounded and in-depth foundation to begin my career journey. From this, I was able to create an initial UX and UI case study as featured on my portfolio and on Behance.
As far as other transferrable skills, I have a B.A. in anthropology, in which I learned many qualitative and quantitative research methods. I have also, for many years been eager to learn about others from differing cultures. I have dined with Saudis and Koreans on an apartment floor, danced with the Sudanese at an African celebration, roomed with Taiwanese, Chinese, and Beninese friends, spent Christmas with Kenyans, and worshiped at church with my Indian, Burmese, and Mexican family.
To say the least, I love people! And, learning about others gives me great joy. I love hearing the stories of where others are from, and understanding what life is like in their home countries. I believe this is a good skill especially when designing for products and technology across cultures.
Throughout my job history, I have acquired the skill of teaching and instruction. I have taught Boy Scouts their merit badge lessons and instructed mentally challenged adults how to cook, ride the bus, and tell time. I have taught 4 and 5 year olds as a para-professional in a pre-K class, and prepared many Bible studies and youth group messages for high school and college students. Even my most recent job required that I gauge my customer’s technological skill levels and tailor my instruction to their specific needs as I taught them how to use the kiosks to order photo products.
Another major part of me is that I am a church worship leader. My responsibilities include planning for weekly services, helping maintain unity, and setting an example for the group and the congregation. This position requires decisiveness, leadership, and an ability to listen to the needs of others. All of these skills are incredibly useful for someone looking to train up a designer that can in-turn train up and lead others in the future.
Overall, I am hoping to find the right fit for me. I believe I am very adaptable and would be a great addition to a team that enjoys positivity and innovation. I want to learn and understand user thought processes and needs and apply my creativity to inspire innovative UX solutions that can help solve real life problems.
